Origins & History of the O'Kane Clan
The historic Irish surname O’Kane derives from the Gaelic Ó Catháin, traditionally translated as “Son of Battle”. Rooted deeply within the ancestral province of Ulster, particularly the territories of County Derry, the clan maintained a revered status among the hereditary dynasties of ancient Ireland.
Throughout the medieval epoch, chieftains and families bearing the name O’Kane held extensive estates and defended their ancestral lands against encroaching Norman and Tudor forces.
