Origins & History of the O'Hart Clan
The historic Irish surname O’Hart derives from the Gaelic Ó hAirt, traditionally translated as “Bear or Hero”. Rooted deeply within the ancestral province of Connacht, particularly the territories of County Sligo, the clan maintained a revered status among the hereditary dynasties of ancient Ireland.
Throughout the medieval epoch, chieftains and families bearing the name O’Hart held extensive estates and defended their ancestral lands against encroaching Norman and Tudor forces.
