Origins & History of the O'Beirne Clan
The historic Irish surname O’Beirne derives from the Gaelic Ó Beirn, traditionally translated as “Bear or Chieftain”. Rooted deeply within the ancestral province of Connacht, particularly the territories of County Roscommon, the clan maintained a revered status among the hereditary dynasties of ancient Ireland.
Throughout the medieval epoch, chieftains and families bearing the name O’Beirne held extensive estates and defended their ancestral lands against encroaching Norman and Tudor forces.
