Origins & History of the Mullarkey Clan
The historic Irish surname Mullarkey derives from the Gaelic Ó Maoilearca, traditionally translated as “Servant of Saint Earc”. Rooted deeply within the ancestral province of Connacht, particularly the territories of County Galway, the clan maintained a revered status among the hereditary dynasties of ancient Ireland.
Throughout the medieval epoch, chieftains and families bearing the name Mullarkey held extensive estates and defended their ancestral lands against encroaching Norman and Tudor forces.
