Origins & History of the Madden Clan
The historic Irish surname Madden derives from the Gaelic Ó Madaidheáin, traditionally translated as “Little Hound”. Rooted deeply within the ancestral province of Connacht, particularly the territories of County Galway, the clan maintained a revered status among the hereditary dynasties of ancient Ireland.
Throughout the medieval epoch, chieftains and families bearing the name Madden held extensive estates and defended their ancestral lands against encroaching Norman and Tudor forces.
