Origins & History of the MacGettigan Clan
The historic Irish surname MacGettigan derives from the Gaelic Mac Eiteagáin, traditionally translated as “Son of the Winged One”. Rooted deeply within the ancestral province of Ulster, particularly the territories of County Donegal, the clan maintained a revered status among the hereditary dynasties of ancient Ireland.
