Origins & History of the Higgins Clan
The historic Irish surname Higgins derives from the Gaelic Ó hUiginn, traditionally translated as “Viking or Poet-Traveller”. Rooted deeply within the ancestral province of Connacht, particularly the territories of County Mayo, the clan maintained a revered status among the hereditary dynasties of ancient Ireland.
