Origins & History of the Daly Clan
The historic Irish surname Daly derives from the Gaelic Ó Dálaigh, traditionally translated as “Assembler or Councillor”. Rooted deeply within the ancestral province of Leinster, particularly the territories of County Westmeath, the clan maintained a revered status among the hereditary dynasties of ancient Ireland.
Throughout the medieval epoch, chieftains and families bearing the name Daly held extensive estates and defended their ancestral lands against encroaching Norman and Tudor forces.
