Origins & History of the Carroll Clan
The historic Irish surname Carroll derives from the Gaelic Ó Cearbhaill, traditionally translated as “Fierce in Battle”. Rooted deeply within the ancestral province of Leinster, particularly the territories of County Offaly, the clan maintained a revered status among the hereditary dynasties of ancient Ireland.
Throughout the medieval epoch, chieftains and families bearing the name Carroll held extensive estates and defended their ancestral lands against encroaching Norman and Tudor forces.
