Corktown is Detroit’s oldest surviving residential neighborhood, platted in 1834 by immigrants originating primarily from County Cork.
Centering around the historic steeple of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Corktown survived Detroit’s rapid industrialization to become a proud cultural district. Irish workers contributed their labor to the stove foundries and early automotive assembly plants that transformed Detroit into the “Motor City.”
