Baltimore, home to the terminus of the Baltimore & Ohio (B&O) Railroad at Mount Clare, was the third largest port of entry for European immigrants during the nineteenth century.
In neighborhoods like Locust Point and Fells Point, Irish immigrants laid the trackbeds for America’s first commercial railroad. Today, the Irish Railroad Workers Museum in Baltimore preserves an authentic rowhouse block documenting the daily lives, domestic struggles, and communal strength of nineteenth-century Irish families.
